BRASILIA, July 21 (Xinhua) -- Three bodies have been discovered from a boat sunk on Tuesday afternoon in Brazilian Amazon river near Manaus, the Manaus Fire Department said.
Local media had reported earlier that the first body was that of an eight-year-old girl and another was a woman aged between 45 and 55 years, but there was no further information about the third.
The boat, with 185 people on board, was traveling from Manaus, the main city in the Brazilian Amazon region, to Santarem in the nearby Para state, according to the Port Authority.
Shortly after its departure, the crew detected some mechanical problems; but when the boat got to the dock, it began to sink and many passengers fell into water.
The Fire Department said most of those in the water were pulled to safety by people in the port and rescue teams continued to search for any people who might be trapped inside the vessel.
No information was available on the number of people missing or injured.
