Zelaya thanks Chile, Unasur's condemnation against coup-plotters

SANTIAGO, July 21 (Xinhua) -- Honduras' ousted president Manuel Zelaya on Tuesday thanked Chile and the Union of South American Nations (Unasur) for their condemnation against the troop-supported coup in his country on June 28.

Speaking to a local radio station in the capital of Santiago, Zelaya said he was grateful for the call made by Chilean President Michelle Bachelet, temporary president of the Unasur, on his reinstatement as president of Honduras.

"Chile and the Unasur have been most defined on condemning this coup, on not recognizing its authorities and demanding the immediate restitution of the Honduran democratic system," Zelaya said.

Bachelet said on Monday that the international community would not accept another solution to the political crisis in Honduras but the restoration of the constitutional order.

After the 72-hour deadline set to find a way to resolve the political crisis in Honduras, Bachelet hoped the mediation would result in an "agreed and pacific" solution.

Bachelet praised Zelaya's "good disposition (to find a solution) and expressed regret that "Honduran interim government has not showed the same disposition".

Following the June 28 coup in which Zelaya was dethroned by force, the European Union, the Inter American Bank of Development, the World Bank and other international institutions have canceled their aids to Honduras.

"The Honduran people can not continue living in a situation like this, paying the price of the international isolation," the Chilean president said.

The international community will not accept another alternative but the reinstatement of the rule of law and democracy in Honduras, she added.
