JAKARTA, July 23 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia will carry on its plan to build a nuclear power plant, Indonesian Research and Technology Minister Kusmayanto Kadiman said on Thursday.
"The government is now socializing this plan to public since we will operate the nuclear power plant in 2016. It would have already operated a nuclear power plant commercially," the Antara news agency quoted the minister in his remarks to open Research and Technology (Ritech) Expo exhibition as saying.
The plan to operate the nuclear power plant was in line with Law No. 17/2007 that stipulates the government's long term development plans, he said, adding "we already have the power plant's site in Jepara, Central Java."
Excusing on the high risk of a nuclear power plant, many parties in the country opposed such a plan.
