TEHRAN, July 20 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah AliKhamenei Monday warned the country's leading politicians against acting under the pointing hands of the nation's enemies, the English-language Press TV reported.
"Ruling figures are facing a significant challenge that leads to their collapse," Khamenei was quoted as saying to the country's leading political figures.
"Rationalism is the correct way to solve the existing issues," Khamenei said, adding that the western governments are trying to instigate post-election riots in Iran through their media outlets.
"The recent events indicated that the nation must be careful about the enemies' plots against the Islamic establishment," he said.
Earlier, Iran's Association of Combatant Clerics led by the reformist former President Mohammad Khatami called for a referendum to solve the current crisis following the disputed presidential election.
After incumbent President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was announced as the winner of the June 12 presidential election, Iran has been the scene of a series of protests and unrest.
According to Press TV, Iran's police have arrested 457 people in the post-election violence which has left at least 20 dead and hundreds of others injured.
On June 29, the Guardian Council confirmed the vote result, announcing the election file was closed.
