Palestinian killed in clash at army checkpoint in Lebanon

BEIRUT, July 24 (Xinhua) -- A wanted Palestinian national was killed and a Lebanese army soldier wounded at dawn on Friday during a clash at an army checkpoint north of Beirut, the Lebanese National News Agency reported.

Four people in a Mercedes 300 car tried to cross the checkpoint,and opened fire at the soldiers manning Madfoun checkpoint in Harissa area, about 20 km north of Beirut, the report quoted a security source as saying.

The Lebanese soldiers returned fire at the car, killing a wanted Palestinian, the reported said.

A Lebanese soldier was slightly wounded in his hand, it added.

The other three in the car, who are a Palestinian, a Lebanese and a Syrian, were arrested. All of them are wanted by Lebanese authorities.
