Three construction workers killed in Baghdad bomb attack

BAGHDAD, July 21 (Xinhua) -- A bomb explosion Tuesday struck a group of construction workers in Baghdad's Shiite bastion of Sadr City, killing three workers and wounding 25 others, said a well-informed police source.

The incident occurred when an explosive-charge went off at about 6:00 a.m. (0300 GMT) among a group of construction workers, who were waiting to be hired for a day-long job, in Baghdad's eastern neighborhood of Sadr City, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

Also in the day, Iraqi Minister of Water Resources Abdul al-Latif Rasheed, a Kurdish, escaped unhurt a roadside bomb attack that targeted his convoy near the Suspecsion Bridge in central Baghdad, the source said.

The blast resulted in the wounding of three traffic policemen and three civilians, along with causing damages to one of the convoy's vehicles, the source added.

Sporadic attacks continue in Iraq despite three weeks of U.S. troops withdrawal from the country's cities and towns in line witha security pact signed late last year between Baghdad and Washington.
