GAZA, July 23 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian authorities prevented a group of Arab actors from entering the Gaza Strip on Thursday, the Hamas government, which controls the coastal territory, said in a statement.
The group included a well-known Syrian comedian Duraid Laham, and an Egyptian film star and actress Fardous Abdel Hamid.
"The Egyptian security refused to give the delegation a permission to enter Gaza under the pretext that Rafah border crossing is closed for the time being," the statement said.
"Laham has been waiting for two days to get into Gaza though Egypt opens Rafah crossing partially before some of the delegations," the statement added.
Laham and his delegation had planned to inspect the war-torn Gaza Strip and attend the opening of a locally-produced play about the suffering of the Palestinian women.
Israel and Egypt have been maintaining a siege on the Gaza Strip since 2007 in response to Hamas' violent takeover of power in the coastal enclave.
