Indian youth beaten to death for marrying girl against wishes of her family

NEW DELHI, July 23 (Xinhua) -- A 21-year-old Indian youth who had married against the wishes of his bride's family was beaten to death Wednesday by residents of the girl's village in the northern Indian state of Hariyana, reported the Indo-Asian News Service Thursday.

Ravinder was beaten to death by residents of Singhwal village near Haryana's Jind district, when he had gone to the village to bring back his wife Sonia Wednesday, said the report.

Villagers did not allow anyone to take the body of the victim till late Wednesday night and displayed it at the village crossing, said the report.

Police have removed the body from the village and a postmortem is being conducted.

Ravinder had married Sonia, 18, in March this year against the wishes of her family who said both belonged to the same clan and were hence brother and sister, said the report.
