JAKARTA, July 23 (Xinhua) -- Religion leaders on Thursday urged the Indonesian government to arrest people who were behind the terror attack that exploded bombs in two hotels in Jakarta on Friday last week.
"We condemn the perpetrators of the attack and urge the government to arrest the people who mastermind it," said the Secretary General of the Indonesian Church Association Reverend Richard Daulay, adding that in the country's constitution, leaders should protect their people.
He also urged the president, police, and experts not to make a war of statements in media, a thing that according to him would confuse people.
Habib Mundzir Al Musawa, the leader of the Rasulullah Assembly, said that apart from condemning the perpetrators and the masterminds, people should also pray for them so that they regret of what they have done and ask for God's forgiveness.
"In Islam, our Prophet Mohammed always prays to God for his enemy so they receive God's forgiveness," said Musawa.
He also said that the government should curb the "bomber generation" to emerge because it was undeniable that certain people supported the action of crime.
"The government should not only take steps in improving economy but also fixing people's behavior. That would also prevent people from committing corruption and other crimes," he said.
Maulana Kamal Yusuf, one of the officials of the Betawi Ulemas Forum said that the suicide bombers should not be linked with Islam.
"They are sinners because our holy book says that suicidal action, like the suicide bombers did, will not get forgiveness or blessing from Allah, especially their action also took other Islam people's lives too," he said.
Two bomb blasts wrecked the JW Marriot and Ritz Carlton hotels in Mega Kuningan business district in South Jakarta on last Friday, taking nine lives and injuring some 60 others.
Police confirmed that they were actions of suicidal bombings. Police also had released the sketches of the perpetrators' face.
