India special court accepts Mumbai attacker confession

NEW DELHI, July 23 (Xinhua) -- The special court trying Mohammed Ajmal Amir alias Kasab, the only terrorist caught alive in Mumbai mayhem, Thursday accepted his confession on record, a senior Indian Home Ministry official said.

"Special court judge M.L. Tahilyani officially accepted Kasab's confession which he made on Monday. The judge has also ruled that the terror trial would continue," the official said on condition of anonymity.

Meanwhile, Kasab's lawyer Abbas Kazmi has told the court that he wants to be excused from the Mumbai attacks case since Kasab has no confidence in him.

"The judge asked Kasab to sort out the matter with his lawyer," he said.

Kasab Monday pleaded guilty to his crimes for his involvement in the Mumbai terror attacks from November 26 to 29 last year, which killed over 170 people.

Kasab also said that his statement was given "under no pressure".

On Wednesday, he said he is ready to be hanged if the court felt that he confessed to get lenient punishment.
