ISLAMABAD, July 23 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani said Thursday that Pakistan desires a long term strategic partnership with France.
Gilani expressed his satisfaction over the preliminary engagement between the two sides for the signing of two framework agreements on defense and security and on economy and energy, while talking to Anne Marie Idrac, French Secretary of State for Foreign Trade here.
Referring to the current power crisis in the country, Gilani said that Pakistan would like to diversify its energy mix and would welcome France's assistance in increasing the power generation capacity of the country, particularly in hydel, solar, wind and nuclear energy fields.
The Prime Minister also sought France's help to gain enhanced market access of its products to the European markets and for starting negotiations on the Free Trade Agreement between Pakistan and the European Union.
Anne Marie Idrac assured the Prime Minister of her country's continued support to Pakistan to overcome its current economic difficulties and in winning the war against terror.
It was reported that Pakistan and France in recent days have agreed to form a joint task force for information sharing to dismantle terrorism by identifying terrorists' network across the world.
